Update to Crestview Heights Staff and WHS/WMS – This is FYI for Public

Posted on April 17, 2019

The following message was sent to all Crestview Heights Elementary Staff and Waldport Middle and High on Wednesday 4.17.19.

Dear Staff,

We are back to school at CVH tomorrow. BIG thank you to Seashore Literacy for having a program today from 8 AM to 1 PM! Awesome. I have copied the Middle School and High School because this update affects them too.

Here is an update:

  1. I asked the Central Coast Fire Department Chief Woodson once again to check the Crestview Heights Elementary School, including the Middle School wing and what they found is that one classroom, had, at some time in the last month, registered an 11 and then went back to zero. All the other classrooms had monitors which remained at zero the entire time. (Thirty (30) is when the monitor would go off.)

As a precaution, we will not be using that classroom until we have thoroughly checked it for safety. Each machine logs the readings so we can get history.

  1. The lowest internal temp today was 64.3 degrees.
  1. Please follow our Space Heater Protocol when using a space heater. They must be turned off when you leave. Custodians will check them nightly.
  1. The Lincoln County School District and Public Health Department are working together on an investigation into why some Crestview Heights Elementary School kids tested at the levels they did for CO exposure, specifically, where did they get the exposure? We welcome their assistance into finding an answer to this question and will share everything we get. Stay tuned. We are also working with ODE, OSHA, and DEQ.
  1. I have asked that Hall B people not be there, just for extra measure, Thursday and Friday. This makes it really hard for you (the staff) and for WMS/WHS but I just need to ask you to please do this. You may return Monday. You are champs for doing this with grace and patience. That is said to ALL of you at both the Elementary and Middle/High school. Your grace in this is VERY appreciated and well noted. THANK YOU.
  1. We are looking for a date to have a facilitated parent meeting along with the Lincoln County Health Department to have time to share concerns and ideas. Stay tuned for the day and time. It may a little while for us to get this meeting scheduled but we will have it as soon as we can.

That’s it for now. Dr. Karen Gray, Superintendent
