Laura Blair, a middle school STEAM teacher at Taft 7-12, recently shared her innovative curriculum with the Lincoln City Rotary Club. Laura’s approach to education is rooted in her belief that learning should be engaging and hands-on. Her courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics emphasize learning by doing — encouraging students to experiment, make mistakes, and solve real-world problems. She emphasizes that “learning should be fun,” a philosophy that resonates with her students.
In addition to her regular classes, Laura coordinated a popular and dynamic summer school program focused on experiential learning. She also started a ZEN class which provides a safe space for girls to exercise, build self-esteem, and prioritize their social-emotional and physical health — showing them that fitness and wellness can be enjoyable. Some of her students had the opportunity to speak at the Rotary meeting, sharing how the STEAM curriculum, summer learning, and her ZEN class have made a meaningful difference in their lives.
Thanks Laura and all the students who shared information with the Rotarians!
